DUI defense is a uniquely specialized area of the law that requires specific scientific knowledge and legal experience to practice successfully. Paul E. Lewis is an aggressive, creative DUI defense specialist practicing in Memphis and throughout the state of Tennessee.

A former DUI judge with the Millington Municipal Court (1977 to 1987), he is one of only two attorneys in Tennessee to be both Board Certified as a DUI Specialist by the National College for DUI Defense and certified as a DUI Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Legal Education and Specialization.

In addition, Mr. Lewis is certified to administer breath alcohol tests, is certified in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing as both an administrator and instructor and, as a certified phlebotomist, is qualified to administer blood tests.

Because of his unique background, Mr. Lewis knows how to obtain and examine evidence, including breath tests and blood tests, and knows how to challenge the basis for the arrest. When you are arrested for DUI, whether by police or at a highway patrol roadblock, you are subjected to questioning and field sobriety tests that even in the best circumstances are difficult to perform. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), field sobriety tests are only 65% reliable. Mr. Lewis has the knowledge and experience to analyze the facts of the arrest, uncover evidence hidden by the police and obtain independent scientific evidence to help in your defense.

A native of Memphis, Mr. Lewis is a graduate of Lambuth College and received his law degree in 1974 from Memphis State University. He is admitted to practice in all of the state courts of Tennessee and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He also represents military and civilian personnel when their DUI cases are charged in a courts martial or in Federal District Court.

Mr. Lewis is a member of the Memphis and Shelby County Bar Association (Member, Criminal Law Section), the Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Christian Legal Society, the National College for DUI Defense, the National Lawyers Association, and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

During his service as a Municipal Court Judge in the city of Millington, Mr. Lewis presided over more than 1,000 DUI cases and tried to verdict more than 100 DUI cases.
